The Love Letters of Jane Schenck Malbone and Ralph Malbone

In June of 2016, the Brooklyn Museum purchased the correspondence of Jane Schenck Malbone and Ralph Malbone at a Swann Gallery auction. This exciting acquisition enriches the Library’s holdings of primary source and published documentation on the Schenck family, who were prominent Dutch farmers in Brooklyn and one of the first families to settle the area around 1650.


Blake in Brooklyn: A New Acquisition of a Rare Facsimile

Some say the future of art museum libraries will be the rare or unique research resources we collect. With that in mind at Brooklyn, we have been focusing our collection development policy on “rarer” items that are not readily available in other libraries. One recent acquisition falls into this category with the donation of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell by William Blake (London: Camden Hotten, 1868).
